Palm Beach Chic Pt. 3

The third day was the last day of the conference. We woke up and got straight to work getting ready for breakfast. Once again we welcomed attendees as they came in for breakfast and were able to sit and enjoy it.

Since this was the last day and we still had not been to a break out session, we were able to choose one we would like to go to and Nickalette and I chose one on colours and design. It was interesting to learn about the different colour pallets and which colours work well together in different ways.

After this, we finished setting up for lunch, lunch was the big finally to the conference! It was all out inspired and themed Lily Pulitzer!

The tables were set up with 5 difference colours and 5 different patterns, it was a bit much at first but once it came together and the lighting dimmed it down some, it turned out really great!

Palm Beach Chic Pt. 2

Monday we woke up bright and early to start working. First thing we had to do was to welcome people as they came for breakfast. After this we got to sit in on a general session for a bit until set up for lunch began, then we guarded the doors of the general session and guided people to leave out the back, not out the side where lunch was being set up.

There were two seatings for lunch so we welcomed the attendees and took their lunch tickets to make sure they were in the first seating. After everyone was seated we were able to go in as well to eat lunch.

After guarding and taking tickets for the second lunch seating, Nickaletta and I were able to attend the general session with Matthew Robins.

His presentation was on inspiration, and it was very inspirational. Matthew’s work is amazing! He showed us things he was inspired by and how he made his inspiration and vision come to life.

After this, we spent the rest of the day getting things ready for the third days breakfast and lunch.

Palm Beach Chic Pt. 1

I have a lot to catch up on in my blogging world, I have been busy with a lot going on and a lot of school work. So that this post doesn’t get too overwhelming it’s going to be in 3 parts.

I am a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants student chapter at UCF. As you have seen I try to attend the ABC meetings monthly, but for November the monthly meeting was their National Conference! I had the opportunity to volunteer for the conference which was in Palm Beach this year.

I woke up bright and early Sunday morning to drive down and arrive at 10 A.M. The other volunteers from UCF (Gabriella, and Mariana) and I got to work with some of the floral arrangements for that evenings event. We took pieces of hydrangeas and placed them in glass containers filled with water beads. We did the same thing with roses, something new I learned about handling roses is if you blow on the center and use your fingertips to gently press the center you get a beautiful open rose look.

After we finished with those flowers we helped cut roses and gently fold the rose petals back for the floral arraignment by the banquet doors for that evening. Gently folding back the roses petals until there is a little bulb left in the middle gives the roses a completely different look! It was beautiful! Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of those.

Next we headed over to the convention center and started working on placing menu cards in the napkins for Tuesday’s breakfast. The inspiration for the set up was Lily Pulitzer. I really liked the pattern and colour combination of the design for this breakfast created by Mercedes Dos Santos at MeKaSo Creations.

After finishing the napkins we guarded doors, directed people to the next area and stayed busy. That night was the White Party! By the afternoon two of the volunteer had to head back to Orlando and it was Alanna, Christine and myself left. After we guarded the doors to the White Party so no one could sneak in early, we got to enjoy the party for ourselves!

The room was lit in blue (which my camera didn’t capture) but it looked amazing! There was a beautiful bar set up by Mark Kingsdorf with Just Bars, which had our floral arrangement put together earlier that day, set up on the bar.

The Dj’s control board was a touchscreen! The Dj could write a message and have the screen flip it around for us to see! It was very cool.

Sunday night’s White Party was the perfect opportunity for me to network with people from all over the nation, I graduate soon and who knows where I will end up! I met some great people!

August’s Association of Bridal Consultants networking event was held at the Rosen Plaza Hotel. Guest speaker Heather Canada gave us a handout and presentation on using WordPress. Most of the stuff she spoke about if pretty generic and self explanatory but what I took away from the presentation was some pretty useful plugins.

Next months event is September 26th and is all about presenting the best possible you! It is being held at the Alfond Inn in Winter Park. I really want to go but I’m planning a trip to Boston in which I would be leaving that day so it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to make it to that one. 😦

Luckily I will be able to attend my first ABC student organization meeting September 5th! I love ABC, their networking events are great and they are always so informative and beautifully put together. I am very excited that they have extended their association to include their first student organization at UCF Rosen!

An Eye For Design

With all of the happenings I hadn’t gotten to posting about June’s ABC/NACE networking event. The event was held at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee. We had breakfast for dinner! The focus of the event was the design process of guest speaker Bill Hamelton. The designs were put together in three ways budget, moderate, and high end.

The ballroom itself was citrus themed with really great centerpieces! The back of the ballroom started with high centerpieces and as you moved towards the front of the ballroom the centerpieces became lower.

I loved the citrus theme! The centerpieces were provided by Raining Roses. This event inspired me with a lot of ideas for an upcoming showcase with a Florida theme that Mobella is coordinating!

A Pinteresting Event Part 2

Part 1 of this post was all about the decor! Part 2 is all about what I learned from guest speaker Tony Tate about Pinterest from a business standpoint.

First of all Pinterest is all about what you love and why you love it! It’s not for commercializing. Here are some reasons why businesses use or should use (if you aren’t already) Pinterest.
* Help build your business fast
* Use it as a visual display
* Increase your business audience
* Pinterest users buy things!

You should always be aware of who your follows are and who is following them. Tony used the example of Justin Timberlake because he is such a big celebrity and everyone listens to his music, everyone follows him on twitter and what not, so they feel like they know him. The more you connect with your followers the more they feel like they know you. The more they trust you and your brand.

To help you reach a wider audience the best time to pin is from 2 – 4 P.M. in the afternoon and from 8 P.M. – 1 A.M. in the evening. If you are already on Pinterest think about what you are pinning or have already pinned? Do you need to delete or clean out any of your current boards? Make sure your pins are relevant to you business and to each specific board.

Following your competition is encouraged! See what brands they are pinning. Photographers be cautious, make sure followers don’t use your images for their own profit. It is okay to use watermarks on your images. See what your followers like the most, know what has been repinned and liked the most.

A Pinteresting Event Part 1

The Association of Bridal Consultants July meeting was all about Pinterest! Who doesn’t love Pinterest?!?! The event was held at the Grand Bohemian in Celebration which is a beautiful venue! The speaker Tony Tate educated us on Pinterest from a business standpoint. The ballroom was set up with different table designs inspired by different Pinterest boards.

The vendors for this event did a great job! Floral design was by Bluegrass Chic, linens were provided by Over The Top, invitations from The Invitation Lounge, chargers from A Chair Affair, and deserts from Two Sweet Chick’s Deserts!

While I’m not a pink and glitter loving girl (I don’t hate them, but I don’t LOVE them), the pretty in pink table totally had me in love with the combination here! I don’t know if I’d ever choose it for myself but it reminded me of something my sister would have, so I’ll keep this in mind for her.

It’s so hard to choose a favourite table but I think I have to go with the 50 Shades of Purple! I love the whole ombré concept and hydrangeas are one of my favourite flowers! I really liked the menu cards, the back was all paisley! Better yet the favors on each table were infused sugars! The 50 Shades of Purple table had lavender sugar which was absolutely perfect for me, one of my favourite teas is lavender earl grey tea from a shop in NYC so I got excited to use this sugar to make some at home!
